This was the 2nd demonstration day that John had run at the Newstead Bonsai nursery. Today's topic was driftwood and lava. He used an old hardwood from a Canadian lake as the driftwood, and planted a juniper forest on top. Very effective. 
The lava valley scene use an Indonesian lava sourced from Amsterdam with White Birch from Japan and a raft Juniper. Small plants were a Cotoneaster congesta and others. It looked congested during the construction, but the finished result was amazing.
The final picture is of a yew they did on the 1st demonstration day. Well worth going.
